This writing assessment can be used within an informational, research-based unit. Students will spend time, in class, reading myths based on natural disasters and researching a natural disaster. Students will create their own, original myth based on their independent research.
This PBL activity teaches young students about stranger safety. By bringing in a guest speaker to the classroom, having students create their own scenarios and responses, and having them write a letter to someone they want to thank for keeping them safe, this activity allows students to practice their writing and listening skills while learning an important real-life lesson about strangers at the same time.

In this lesson, students write reviews for popular retail website Amazon.com in order to develop their reading, critical thinking, and persuasive writing skills. Students will employ the writing process after reading Charlotte Perkins Gilman's, "The Yellow Wallpaper," to create their own published reviews of the story.
Students will use Google Slides to publish a writing piece with a partner by collaboratively typing their story, adding images to their slides, and creating links for readers to navigate their published book. This activity may take more than one class period.
