• Find the volume of a rectangular prism with whole-number side lengths by packing it with unit cubes and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths.

This learning plan gives students choice in selecting activitites to learn, practice, and show evidence of learning about the water cycle based upon NC 5th Grade Science Standards. This resource was developed as part of a professional learning opportunity funded by the NCDPI Digital Learning Initiative Planning Grant.

This lesson combines the science standards for force and motion with an engineering activity. Students will design a car from cardboard straws. Coffee stirs tape, balloon, and bottle lids. ( students can choose which types of wheels). Students will race the cars with classmates to determine which is the fastest.

Students will put up to 15 words randomly in the 5x5 grid.

Challenge: Make a sentence using each word in row 1. Challenge students to make sentences for each row and column in the 5x5 grid.

Can be done collaboratively, or individual. Nice to mix it up!

To add technology, have students find a resource or picture or article that supports their sentences.

Student groups will have the opportunity to share the knowledge they develop about the entrepreneurial process and business leadership through the creation of a periodic Podcast.

Students will use paper circuits to label various parts of the skeletal system.

Students will create a weekly Podcast regarding a current or future technology based on research. Students will need to provide a typed summary  and works cited page for teacher approval prior to creating the podcast. This is a great lesson for integration into the school news or class webpage.

In this project, students will learn about the planning process to creating an algorithm using paper coding blocks as manipulatives and visual aids. They will Be given a set of requirements that their robot must follow and then discuss the process with their groups and create their algorithm using Code Snaps. When they have created their paper program, they will test it and review it for possible issues and improvements.
