In this lesson, students practice balancing how to balance and hold different poses properly.
In this lesson, students play, learn, and practice how to balance and hold different poses properly.
Students will learn how to find their center of gravity or apply a greater sense of control of center. This study varies the weight and lift of the body in or to maximize the use of the center. Students wil learn how flow, breathe, dynamics and use of space can lead to an enhanced understanding of movement technique.
To display the results from the previous activity, each student designs and constructs a mobile that contains a duplicate of his or her original box, the new cube-shaped box of the same volume, the scraps that are left over from the original box, and pertinent calculations of the volumes and surface areas involved. They problem solve and apply their understanding of see-saws and lever systems to create balanced mobiles.
This lesson invites students to learn and apply formal methods of visual arts analysis to investigate and understand Dan Namingha's Hopi Eagle Dancer They will then experiment with paints in an effort to get a sense of how the artist used different tools and thicknesses of paints to achieve varying effects in the painting.
Students will be able to: identify at least three different techniques/characteristics of the painting; discuss the impact of the artist's use of color in the painting; list and apply methods of formal visual analysis; and use trial-and-error methods to obtain different visual effects.
Students will analyze how they spend their time on a daily basis to develop effective time management skills.
In this lesson, students demonstrate the parts of a good jump that help them to jump further.
The application of engineering principles is explored in the creation of mobiles. As students create their own mobiles, they take into consideration the forces of gravity and convection air currents. They learn how an understanding of balancing forces is important in both art and engineering design.
In this lesson, students practice jogging and play a game of Tent Tag.
This video resource was developed by Neuroscience students of Wake Forest University. This video is designed for high school students. It describes the concept of somatosensory reactions in the body and how they impact how we experience pain and impact our balance.
