This resource has a great cross-curricular reading that could be used in science class or in reading class. It also provides vocab words that will need to be previewed before reading the text. This would be a great text to be included within a larger unit. I also like how this resource includes experiments as well.
-Partial alignment by covering only the "reading and understanding informational texts" part of the standard, and only introduces domain-specific words, and should be considered as part of a unit that would address the standard.
-No learning objectives have been indicated in the resource
-No assessment strategies have been indicated in the resource, so users should plan to add some type of assessment

Strengths- This text has engaging and informative pictures and text features, and is appropriate for 4th and 5th grade.
Opportunities- Comprehension questions could be included in order tp increase the rigor and adequacy of the text, and make it accessible for everyone.
