Part 1:                

Draw a model to show what each equation means.  Label your models with words and numbers.

   1) 24 is three times as many as 8 (24 = 8 x 3).  Draw a model to show what this means.

   2) 24 is eight times as many as 3 (24 = 3 x 8).  Draw a model to show what this means.

 

Part 2:

Explain the relationship between the models.  How is 3 x 8 = 24 related to 8 x 3 = 24?

 

Part 3:

Choose one of the models you drew for part 1.  Create a real life situation that your model could represent.  Explain how multiplication can be used in this situation to compare the amounts.
