I am a 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade math teacher. I really enjoyed that this task presents students with the opportunity to solve problems and then build their and connect their understanding by using the information from their work to answer questions. This task is easy to implement and involves problem-solving, but it is not aligned to NC standard NC.5.NF.1, specifically, as it deals with whole numbers instead of having students add and subtract fractions. Learning objectives for this task need clarifying to properly align the task. Also, the document contains significant errors, including switching the word string to the word wood, which will lead to confusion. This task is accessible for all students and is user-friendly for teachers. This task would benefit from proofreading to correct inconsistencies. Also, this resource should be realigned to a standard it meets or modified to align with standard NC.5.NF.1.
