- In “Backyard Makeover”, students will take the role of a backyard designer. They will learn how to use area and perimeter to design a new backyard. Students will decide on what items to include in their design. Students will submit a design for their “Backyard Makeover.”

I taught fourth grade for many years. This is a great resource to have when teaching area and perimeter.

This resource has some aspects of a high-quality PBL such as intellectual challenge and collaboration (partial). Some opportunities for growth include adding a public project, consulting landscape designers and adding a reflection piece to the resource.
*I am a math teachers and like this idea of creating a back yard. I am trying to figure out how to take this idea and create a PBL for math 1.
