Why?

Consider: Why is OER a value-add to our district and teams?  

Why will framing be an important component of successful engagement?

Discussion/Notes:

OER will promote county wide collaboration to prevent having to reinvent the wheel.  OER will ensure high quality lesson plans that are aligned with standards.  It will allow us to endorse lesson plans. This will be a huge help with working with our BT's.  OER will help us to align vertically.  

Presenting OER in a positive light to teachers will be crucial to teacher buy in.  Teachers need to see OER as a valuable resource. 


Action Items:

1. Present to all instructional specialists once OER is widely published. 

2. Select master teachers from the district to participate in a pilot group to investigate resources and work to upload a lesson into the OER platform. 



What

Consider: Do I need to learn more about OER, OEP, and/or open licensing?

Would be helpful to me if I can spend more time learning about the features and functionality of the microsite?

In my district/school, we have created openly-licensed content that could be added to the microsite.  Do I need to consider the process for making this happen?

Discussion/Notes:

We need to provide specific training on copyright and licensing procedures. The Digital Learning Facilitators will provide opportunities for each school. 

We need more time to peruse the resources that are provided in the OER. 


Action Items:

1. DLF will provide copyright PD during school year 2019-2020. 

2. Specialists will spend time reviewing resources. 



Who?

Consider: I know there are OER champions already in my district/school. How can I best connect with them to discuss GoOpenNC?

How can I best determine other instructional leaders in my district/school who can join me as thought partners as we investigate OER/OEP?

We will use EVAAS resources to determine a set number of teachers to participate in a pilot program for the 2019-2020 school year.

When?

Consider: When are there opportunities for teachers and instructional leaders to engage in professional learning related to OER?

When the district/school reviews and selects instructional materials, can we could consider OER and how those materials can be utilized?

Discussion/Notes:

We are going to take implementation slowly, working during the next school year to develop a pilot group. 


Action Items:

1. Once the OER is ready, we will present it to all Instructional Specialists and Administrators. 

2. After the OER is ready, we will select a pilot group of teachers to participate with the OER. They will look for quality resources and upload quality lessons to the OER.  




How?

Consider: I need to spend time considering how teachers in my district/school are currently selecting instructional materials, and what supports they need to effectively select high quality, standards aligned resources.

How can we best support teachers as they find, vet, use, and create OER.

Are there opportunities for teachers to curate and align OER to standards?

Discussion/Notes:

We need to take the presentation slowly and provide time for teachers to develop buy-in. 


Action Items:

1. Provide multiple days/opportunities of PD to lay the groundwork for using the OER.
