RL 5.5 Poetry Practice and Quiz
Introduce Poetry Elements. You can use the free lesson plan from Readworks.org
Here is a Google Doc to help: Poetry Elements
Share the poem "How Not to Have to Dry the Dishes." by Shel Silverstein
Have students help you find the elements of poetry within the poem. After guiding students through this process, give students the poem "Bear in There" by Shel Silverstein. Have them work in a group to identify the elements of poetry. This process can be done online with Google Slides or on paper. Discuss and show students the answers to see if they are understanding. Answer Key
Allow students to practice matching the elements of poetry. They can do this in groups or play "Quiz, Quiz, Trade." (See directions here). Use the cards from TeachersPayTeachers: Poetry Elements Students can also practice digitally with this resource: Poetry Elements Practice
Allow students to research and find a poem to demonstrate an element of poetry. They should copy the poem onto a slide and record a video using Flipgrid or Screencastify to share their knowledge of poetry elements and how they apply to all poems.
Students can take the quiz when finished.
