This resource is from Tools4NCTeachers.In this lesson, students work with numbers less than 10 and explore the idea of one more and one less than a number.  This file includes the lesson plan, printable activities, student recording sheets, and extension ideas/math stations. 

Players take turns to roll a die and calculate the total of the number rolled plus 10. After each roll the player places a counter on a corresponding number on the board. For example, if a 4 is rolled the player may place a counter on any 14 on the board because 4+10=14. Play continues until one player has 4 counters in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). This instructional task requires students to add four numbers to find the solution.

Students choose a domino and draw it. Next, they write an additon number sentence by adding the dots on each side of the domino. They flip the domino, draw it again, and write the turn around fact. Students repeat the steps with other dominoes.

Students develop a physical understanding for the meaning of equality by trying to find equal lengths using rods.

This task helps students broaden and deepen their understanding of the equals sign and equality.

In this assessment students are asked to complete addition number sentences to match five frame pictures. Students will be prompted to use their five frames and counters to help them. The rubric and assessment task sheet are provided.
