In this lesson, students analyze German recruitment posters and then follow one soldier's war experience through his letters to his wife and family. Students will also view maps of the battles this soldier was in and discuss the strategies used by the Germans and the outcome of the battles. This lesson will help students see the entire picture of war and how it affects countries and people.

In this lesson, students characterize the depictions of two female vice presidential candidates in editorial cartoons. Students will situate these characterizations within the parameters of news and editorial coverage of the candidates as well as those of stereotype, caricature and symbol. In light of their learning, students will critique cartoonists’ decisions for both efficacy and ethics.
