Every orchestra is made up of families "“ four to be exact. This lesson invites you to meet these wonderfully diverse families and the members who make up the voice we hear at the symphony.
Students will understand the basic elements of a fanfare, and the significant role fanfares have played in history as a means of communicating information and emotions.
Students understand the relationships between whole, halves, and quarters, and internalize and the relationships between the parts through interaction with musical notation and rhythm. Additionally, students will apply abstract thinking skills to process, read and create musical notations and compositions using their knowledge of fractions.
To accomplish goals, members of families must cooperate, just as members of the orchestra must cooperate to create beautiful music. Similarly, students in a classroom have similar constructs; everyone
must do their best for themselves as well as for the good of the whole. This lesson helps students understand that an orchestra, a family and a classroom must work together to accomplish great things.
