In this activity, students play a game that simulates the carbon cycle. During the activity students will compare the carbon cycle before and after the industrial revolution.

They will then conduct research and prepare a written case study on a specific assigned invasive aquatic species, including information about how it was introduced, impacts associated with its occurrence, and possible control measures.
Students will conduct research to learn about the vulnerability of coastal communities to the potential effects of earthquakes and their associated hazards and what can be done to reduce the risk.
Students will explore the geologic history of the Earth and create a timeline.
Students will review and discuss the importance of coastal resources, then work collaboratively in conducting research to learn about specific restoration efforts that have taken place to restore damaged resources. Each group will summarize their assigned case study and lead a discussion about resource restoration.
Students will investigate how nutrient enrichment in aquatic habitats can result in hypoxic or anoxic conditions and design an experiment to test their hypothesis.
Students will explain how satellite imagery can be used to monitor land use change and construct a change table to summarize land cover information. They will then use a change table to make inferences about land use changes in a coastal region.
Students will explain the concept of sonar and describe the major components of a sonar system. They will also compare and contrast multibeam and sidescan sonar systems. Then they will design a relatively low-cost sidescan sonar systems that could be built and used by an amateur ocean explorer.
Students will explore the Coriolis Effect and understand how it causes objects, including air and water, to move to the east in the Northern Hemisphere and to the west in the Southern Hemisphere.
