    Amelia Bedlia Lesson Plan

    Overview

In this adaptation of the ReadWriteThink lesson, after a read aloud of Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish, students discuss text-dependent questions to promote an understanding of the story's character.

For students who struggle with independent writing and open ended assments, the author's website has resources for several books that can be differentiated for different abilities.

Read aloud the book Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish. Discuss with the students about the main character's assumptions of her chores as opposed to what is expected of her.

Write down the answers provided by the students on a board or chart paper under three different columns: Amelia Bedelia’s chores, What Amelia Bedelia does, and What Amelia Bedelia is supposed to do.

Hand out a copy of the Amelia Bedelia Chore Table for students to complete.

Use the attached Amelia Bedelia Reading Rubric to assess students' understanding of the story.
