I am a literacy facilitator certified K-6 and found this to be a fun interactive way to engage learners in this tricky skill. Full alignment to depth and breadth of standard(s) tagged. Has clear learning objectives that are achievable through completion of this resource. Has clear assessment strategies that will accurately measure student progress of the specified standards, but needs additional summative strategies. Strengths include Instructional purpose and alignment with NC curricular
standard(s) are explicitly stated or easily inferred. Majority of content and performance expectations in the associated NC standard(s) are addressed. Technology features clearly enhance content and instruction and are directly relevant to instructional goals. It would be nice if the platform allowed for a summative assessment or was adaptive to increase the rigor for students needing a greater challenge. While not to the rigor of determining the impact of figurative language in a complex text, it's a good launch point for introducing this work.
Figurative language is sometimes difficult for middle school students, especially confusion around metaphors and similes. This lesson definitely helps sort out this confusion. The resource is easy to understand and use for teachers and targeted learners.
