Hi -- Joanna Schimizzi (ska-meet-zee).
I am a Biology and Dance Education "expert" :) I taught Bio, AP Bio, Extended Bio, etc for years in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and now I teach for the OCS program as part of NC Virtual Public Schools.
I would love to collaborate more with folks interested in social emotional learning and culturally relevant pedagogy. I'd love to start remixing materials to be more culturally relevant and truly address the whole learner.
Hello everyone!
My name is Stephanie Harris and I work for Iredell-Statesville Schools.
I am an English "expert." I typically taught English II or AP Language and Composition. I currently work as an English instructional coach, and I teach English IV virtually for my school district.
I would like to work with other English teachers to develop lessons focused on representing the diversity of our student populations (as opposed to the old, white men traditionally represented in the canon) and to determine ways to teach our students to consider social, ethical, and moral issues within not only the literature that they read but also within the nonfiction media they encounter.
Hello Everyone! My name is Lisa Hil. I work for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. I am the Academic Faciliatator for an Elementary School. If I had to say I'm an expert at something, it would be ELA for grades 3-5. I would love to collaborate with other Elementary Educators in order to collaborate to make more culturally relevant lessons.
Hello, everyone,
Kiron Spencer here, from Guilford County Schools. I have taught high school English, but I currently work for my district office in Assessment Coordination, coordinating our district's interim assessments.
I have two particular interests, helping teachers gather formative data to inform instructional decisions and helping teachers more effectively gather classroom data at the standard level. I have a special interest in what this looks like in ELA, naturally, but I am comfortable working with teachers k-12 in all content areas.
Hi! I am Pam Sutton. I am a first grade "expert" with 21 years in first grade at Whiteville Primary School in Whiteville, NC. We are a city school system with only five schools but my school houses NINE first grade classrooms. I am a mentor to a first year teacher who was my intern last spring, unofficially to a third year teacher and it looks like I'll possible have a teacher intern in the spring.
I look forward to working with other primary level teachers to find ways to help young teachers "teach it all". Teaching individual subjects is a challenging task but being able to see the big picture and plan for all subjects is hard for young teachers to manage!
Thank you for being willing to work with interns! That is how we help grow our profession. And that is a group that we had not thought to target with our resources...but what a wonderful idea!!! Please share any specific resources you think would be helpful for our Supervising Teachers.
Hi everyone - I'm Stacy Lovdahl, @braveneutrino, a middle school science teacher (I remember my first year like it was yesterday), an ITF (the "I" is the key word) and educator on loan to DPI's Digital Teaching and Learning division (talk to me about I-40). I don't know if I claim to be an "expert" in anything, yet, but my current mission is to somehow help teachers with the alchemy of teaching - the art of knowing how to reach young people, the opportuinities presented by new and constantly evolving tools and the science of data and effect sizes.
If I could collaborate with a specific set of educators around PBL and OER, I would connect with the private sector in rural communities and PBL experts in the state like STEM-west.org and NC Science House.
What is your name, content expertise, current role in education? My name is Janet Dunn, I taught 6,7,8 grade Technology, Business, Marketing and also have a teaching license K-6 everything. I currently work as a Beginning Teacher Specialist, helping our beginning teachers.

Educators that work with beginning teachers and educators who are interested in whole learner learning. The relationships I build with my students are the most important part of my job. I think this platform would really benefit all educators, but especially new teachers who may not have the access to a mentor or resources to help them survive the first few years of teaching. I also think this is a great way to connect our AVID programs across the state but will have to see how that develops with copyright potential issues.
