Hi -- Joanna Schimizzi (ska-meet-zee).
I am a Biology and Dance Education "expert" :) I taught Bio, AP Bio, Extended Bio, etc for years in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and now I teach for the OCS program as part of NC Virtual Public Schools.
I would love to collaborate more with folks interested in social emotional learning and culturally relevant pedagogy. I'd love to start remixing materials to be more culturally relevant and truly address the whole learner.
A big yes to social-emotional learning! That is so overlooked these days.
You are correct. I am doing a lot of work in that area and would love to collect more resources
I second the social emotional learning. We are seeing so many issues with behaviors at a very early age. I would love to see this addressed in order to help bridge the gaps for every child.
Salvete, Omnes -- Eric Oates
I have been teaching Latin (and occasionally Physical Conditioning) in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School for 20 years.
I am hoping to gain new ways for engaging my students in Latin by using project based learning and tech.

If you could collaborate more with a specific set of educators, especially via this platform who would it be?
I would really like to connect with other elementary orchestra teachers who are in a similar situation. I know a could others but they see their kids way more often than I see mine so it is hard to compare the programs.
Hello! My background is ELA, though I am currently a district Digital Learning Coach supporting PreK-12 in all content areas.
I'd be especially interested to connect with those in similar coaching roles as well as those focused on best practices to meet the needs of our exceptional learners.

Hi, my name is Catherine Schrader, I am a 9th grade world history teacher at a charter school. I am a lateral entry teacher (former TFA) who has degrees in Anthropology and History. Generally, anything social science related, I can jump on and tackle pretty easily.
I would be interested in working with teachers who are experienced in cross-content collaboration. I love talking to Social Studies nerds like me...but I really need support in making sure other content is supported to the best of my ability in my classroom. Sometimes, it's hard to admit to your team that you don't really know how to incorporate math into your upcoming unit, so it would be nice to be able to collaborate on here for that work.
Hi everyone - I'm Stacy Lovdahl, @braveneutrino, a middle school science teacher (PBL heaven), an ITF (the "I" is the key word) and educator on loan to DPI's Digital Teaching and Learning division (talk to me about I-40). I don't know if I claim to be an "expert" in anything, yet, but my current mission is to somehow help teachers with the alchemy of teaching - the art of knowing how to reach young people, the opportuinities presented by new and constantly evolving tools and the science of data and effect sizes.
If I could collaborate with a specific set of educators around PBL and OER, I would connect with the private sector in rural communities and PBL experts in the state like STEM-west.org and NC Science House.

My name is Jennifer Selfridge and I teach 7th grade science at Bailey Middle School in Charlotte-Mecklenburg. I've taught in NC since 2006 and spent 4 years teaching in Georgia prior to moving here. I am always interested in sharing ideas with other middle school science teachers.

What is your name, content expertise, current role in education?
Genal West, visual art & photography (BFA double major in print/photo media & education, MSEd Instructional Technology, currently awaiting NBCT status) I teach art foundations and digital photography at the high school level.
If you could collaborate more with a specific set of educators, especially via this platform who would it be?
I would like to collaborate with all educators. When I started teaching, it was a closed-door system. Everyone felt the only way to survive was to keep all your resources close and keep the "competition" at bay... Over the last decade, I have taught in 2 states, 5 counties, online and face to face, EVERY grade level from k-12, course recovery as well as Advanced Placement, and have wandered the halls of schools that were labeled the "lowest of the low" as well as those that were touted as being "top of the heap" of magnet school pull out programs. Art is universal to all of these students, in every school and can be implemented in so many different ways in every classroom. I want to share my experience with anyone who wants to collaborate! Teachers do not live in a bubble, and we should be standing together and helping each other succeed. These kiddos are not my students or yours... they are OURS.

I currently teach American History 2, which is primarily a senior class. I have also taught American History 1, Civics and World History. I teach the non-honors level of students, and I am the only teacher for this class, and I would love to collaborate with teachers facing the same challenges I do. We are a rural school of about 950 students. The only other American History 2 teacher teaches the honors sections. I would love to find ideas to help engage students, especially the apathetic ones (wouldn't we all).
My name is Katherine Cartwright, and I am currently a gifted education specialist. I suppose that is my area of "expertise", but I am really a jack of all trades. I have worked in grades K-8 as a specialist, and I spent the first seven years of my career teaching 4th and 5th grade.
I would love to collaborate with other AIG specialists. Working with AIG kids can be isolating due to misconceptions and bias.

I want to collaborate with other teachers in similar situations. Especially alternative settings and EE

I am Gwen Ennis. I currently work for Pender County Schools at Surf City Middle as a 6th Grade Social Studies teacher. If I could collaborate with others, my preference would be those who teach the same curriculum. Neukisha Motsinger, second year Social Studies teacher in Fayetteville. I teach 7-8 grade this year; Monder World and US/NC.
I'm fairly new. However, I really love doing PBLs to connect the material. I would thrive in a diverse grouping with newer and seasoned educators. Although SS is cross-curricular, working with other Social Studies teachers, or ELA, would keep concepts from being so abstract.
I'm Mitchell Owens. I teach at West Rowan High School in Rowan-Salisbury School District. I have been teaching Civics and Economics for 6 years and AP Government and Politics the past 4. I have also taken on a PBL Coaching role within the school this year as well.
I would like to collaborate with people who have experience leading PBLs and working with mastery based content and grading to help grow my practice.
My name is Robbin Briley and I am in my 23rd year of teaching. I am currently teaching 7th/8th grade science and have content expertise in science, social studies and math in grades 6th-8th grade and I have also taught 5th grade as well. I’ve had experience teaching in both a regular education setting as well as in an alternative school. My cumulative teaching years cover 3 years in 5th grade, 5 years in an alternative school (7th/8th math and science with a strong emphasis on project based learning) and then 15 years in middle school. I am very technology oriented and utilize an LMS in my classroom presently called Classcraft to deliver content that allows me to link with Google Classroom seamlessly.
I am excited to be able to collaborate across content areas especially with science, social studies and reading/ELA teachers. Reading is very much a foundation skill for both science and social studies and being able to share strategies and lessons across all those content areas will in turn make for a more collaborative resource pool to pull from.

My name is Damien Perez. I am a retired military (Air Force) member, currently completing lateral entry requirements to become a licensed teacher. My content expertise lies in science, some mathematics, project management, and aviation. I have over 20 years instructor experience in various capacties. I am currently with a new charter school teaching middle school (7th) science. Our school is in it's second year teaching grades 6th through 9th and services over 320 students in Lee County.
If I could collobrate with a specific set of educators, I would say those with experience in PBL. As a novice in education and expert in project management (certified Project Management Professional), I would like to bridge the gap between my two passions. How can I enhance my school's curriculuim of PBL to push my students to excel?
I am Kim Ferguson. I have taught elementary for 26 years; 18 in 4th and 5th grades and 7 in 2nd grade. Since I teach all content areas, and I recently was at an IB school, I feel that I am strong with inquiry based learning. I wish I could collaborate more with otehr educators that are in the primary area so we would discuss inquiry and the integration into our classrooms.

This is my 14th year teaching. I have taught both middle and high school in private and public schools. I am currently teaching math in a low performing high school, over 75% of our students population will not be proficiant on the Math 1 EOC.
I would love to be able to collaborate with teaching that are teaching in the similar situtions that I am teaching in. I would also like to find new ways to motivate my students to want to do well.
Hello! My name is Emily Davidson, and I am a first-year teacher. I am teaching high school chemistry & physics at Erwin HS in Asheville, NC. Though it is my first year in a formal classroom environment, I completed my BA in chemistry at UNC Chapel Hill with a minor in marine sciences in 2015. I then worked in outdoor environmental education, teaching students about island ecology and marine sciences on Catalina Island, CA, and in Ketchikan, Alaska. This is when I fell in love with teaching and decided I would go to grad school for teaching instead of marine chemistry research, which was my original plan! I completed my MAT in Secondary Sciences from NCSU in spring 2019 and began teaching full-time this fall.
I am looking to collaborate primarily with other high school science teachers. I have some support at my school, but I am the only physics teacher and am constantly searching for good resources and plans since it's my first year in the classroom! I really appreciate the feature that teachers can leave feedback for resources on this platform - I'm hoping this will save me and other teachers a lot of time sifting through things!
I am Janice Bernier--an Academic Facilitator in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. I have worked in ELA related roles for 20 years. I prefer working with struggling readers--I have a Masters in Reading Education. My other joy and interest is teaching poetry--I love to make kids enjoy poetry and feel "smart" when they realize they can "get" poetry!
I would like to connect with other middle school educators.
My name is Peyton Rosinski. I am an EC PreK teacher in a Developmental Day PreK program. I began my teaching carrer in EC with Separate Setting and then decided to return to get my add on in Prek. This has been a very rewarding position for me.
If I could collaborate more with a specific set of educators I would love to see more materials in PreK and how it best aligns with the Kindergarten standards. So often our program gets a "bad name" for being play based (which is in reality more age appropriate for the children ages 3-5). We have sometimes missed the whole importance of social emotional learning and how it is the foundation for our classrooms from PreK on up to even later Elementary School.
Hi my name is Suzanne Raxter and I am the STEAM teacher at a STEAM Academy in Gaston County Schools. I teach K-5 science content standards as well as implementing technology, math and engineering (I laugh when asked about ART because I can't draw a straight line with a ruler). This is my 5 th year teaching in NC previously I taught in Georgia.
I would like to collaborate with more primary STEM or STEAM teachers to develop more hands on activities to get students more engaged in science lessons. That is whyI have developed a new love for PBLs because you are able to incorporate standards in various content areas to increase critical thinking, engagement, and excitment in the learners.
Isaac Stewart
High School Science, currently teaching Honors Physics and Physical Science.
I am interested in increasing student engagement and buy-in through PBL for my Physical Science classes. I have no experience doing this so I would like to see how others have applied it in the classroom.

LaNita Potter. I am certified to teach all core, EC, ESL, and I am a reading speciliast for grades preK-12. I am currently teaching 6th grade history. This is my 2nd year in North Carolina. I moved in from Texas.
If you could collaborate more with a specific set of educators, especially via this platform who would it be?
Because my current content is social studies, I would like to collaborate with 6-8 social studies teachers. My school seems to center more on ELA and Math; therefore, resources are thin for social studies.
I am Cindel Chavers. I am a History, Secondary Education Major, specialize in Social Studies. I currently teach 9th grade American Founding Principles: Civics and Economics.
I would love to work with other social studies teachers, even Civics, and see what PBL that you have done or created.
Hello,
My name is Dawn Price. I have been a teacher for students with severe special needs for 5 years. This year, I switched and went to teaching a resource classroom. I helped my first district come up with materials and lessons to be used that were standards aligned to the Extend One Standards. In my new role, I do not feel like a content expert at all. In fact, it almost feels like my first year of teaching again.
If I could collaborate with a more specific group, it would be teachers who teach in a resource setting. I teach students of every grade level with many different standards focused on in a day due to the needs of the students.
Alexis Hawkins, I have a Masters in curriculum and instruction and I am currently a second grade teacher.
I would really like to be able to talk to more people who have tried their hand at personalized pathways.
My name is Becky Wilson and I am currently serving as a Digital Learning Coach at AL Stanback Middle in Orange County. I taught secondary English Language Arts at both the high school and middle school level. I began my career in a PBL school where I taught a combined ELA/SS high school course for three years.

HI. I am Paula McLamb. This is my 28th year teaching. I have always been in the classroom until this year. I am now teaching English as a Second Language. I am excited about the change and I am enjoying it. However, I sometimes feel like a first year teacher all over again. When in the classroom I taught all subjects. Math is my favorite and when I had the option of blocking, I always taught math.
If I could collaborate with a specific set of educators at this point in time, it would be other ESL teachers. I'm always looking to get great ideas from others that will help engage my students and help them master English.
My name is Miranda Pierce. I'm a fifth grade Teacher in Wake County. I've worked at a school that was STEM and PBL based. I also taught Math only for fifth grade for three years, now teach all subjects.

Wow thought I did this last week but I am not seeing an entry for me.I go by my last name - I have for years so everybody knows me by Chauncey. I am the Instructional Technology Facilitator at North Rowan Middle School. Prior to North Rowan, I was a Media Coordinator at Lexington Senior High School. My current position has me collaborating with all teachers in my building - core courses to exploratory classes, but I hold a special place for social studies teachers so I guess I would like to work with them with regards to this platform.

I would love to collaborate with 7th grade ELA/SS teachers to gather ideas and fine-tune topics. I am always looking for engaging ways to motivate my students.
Sorry I am late. Just realized how to get in here. I am not sure yet if this site is very intuitive. But here goes...
Melissa, ELA 6th grade
I would love to find other 6th grade teachers who integrate their content to meet the grade level standards.
My name is Annie McEntyre, I have been teaching for 9 years. I have taught elementary and middle grades. I currently teach 7th grade science in McDowell County.
My name is Jessica Minto. I am a teacher at Garinger High School, my content expertise is in Social Studies. I currently teach World History, AP Human Geography and AP Psychology. I would love to collaborate with other AP teachers because I am the only teacher at my school!
Hi, I am Alex Seymour. I am a third grade teacher of all subjects. This is my fourth year teaching, but first year in third grade (previously taught kinder and first). I would love to collaborate more with upper elementary teachers.
I've have introduce myself before on the chat on the same night of the 1st Webinar but I can't seem to find it here. I'm Tanya McPherson, I'm currently teaching at a charter school in Lee County, 6th grade science. This is my 1st year teaching in the middle school.
I would love to collaborate with other middle science educators who are expertise in the field of PBL. I've tried PBL in the elementary before and the challenge I faced is that it can be very difficult to balance just being the facilitator (while some students are struggling with the task), as well as to teach the required standard by a specific time. So I would love to work with persons who have it figured out or have some experience in the area.
