Activating StrategyCheck out other 3rd grade bar graphs.  Do you think our data will look the same? Look at other bar and column graphs that were created using google sheets.  
Learning Activity 1  
  • Students must log in to Google Accounts, and navigate to google sheets
  • Using Google Sheets, students will create bar graphs with the data collected as a class by entering data into the sheet and then insert chart
  • Students customize their charts and write titles that make sense with the data.    
  • Discuss vocabulary as we are creating charts.    
  • In this standard, students will interact with data through data collection as a class, creation of a scaled picture or bar graph, and interpretation of data. Students should understand how to formulate a question that provides them with categorical data, which is data that can be grouped into categories. Students should be able to choose an appropriate representation of categorical data and create the representation. Students will create scaled picture graphs and scaled bar graphs. Graphs should include a title, categories, category label, and data.
Learning Activity 2
  • Once graphs are created, students should be able to solve simple one and two-step problems using the information in the graphs.
  • Students will write three statements or solutions about their class graphs using google docs on day two of our class time together.  
Accommodations and Enrichment:  Students may write more complex problem solving statements or make statements verbally rather  than in writing. Some students may need additional time to complete tasks.      
Graphic Organizer:  bar or column graph



Summarizing Strategy:  
  • Students will write three statements or solutions about their class graphs using google docs on day two of our class time together.
  • Students will print their graphs and statements in google sheets and google docs to share.
