Remix Artifact Project (Beginning of Year)
In lieu of the written paragraph of the project, allow students to use flipgrid to speak about why their artifact and/or drawing are important to them. During the class presentation part, they can use their flipgrid and/or add to the information they shared by sharing a story about their artifact. Both of these give choice and an opportunity to use oral storytelling and oral description.
An opportunity for students to talk in small groups prior to picking their artifact would also give them a chance to brainstorm with other students how they might represent themselves.
An additional option could be to offer the choice of choosing a song or poem as an artifact or as an extra to accompany their artifact or drawing.
These options speak to Emerging CRT practices of talking before writing, group before individual, choice and voice.
