T4T Cluster 1 Family Letter (English & Spanish)
Dear Families,
During the first few weeks of Kindergarten, the focus in math will be to develop our classroom community and to foster a growth mindset. New evidence from brain research tells us that everyone can be a mathematician, learning mathematics at the highest levels. Evidence suggests that the difference between those who succeed in math and those who don’t is not based on the brains they were born with, but rather their mindsets. Individuals with a fixed mindset believe that people are either smart or not smart. In contrast, “in a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” (Dweck, 2015).
As your child’s teacher, I believe in the power of a growth mindset. This newsletters provides resources for helping your child develop a growth mindset, and become a great kindergarten mathematician.
