Materials

Numeral: 8; manipulatives such as chips/cubes, pencil, paper

Task

·         Place the materials on the table. 

·         Show the student the numeral 8. Ask:  How many more do I need to make 10?  Show your thinking with objects, pictures or numbers.

·         Repeat with the numeral 4.

·         Repeat with the numeral 9.
