A. Noah, Gia, and Feirin collected data to learn more about their new classmates.  Each student asked a different survey question.   Their    teacher asked them to represent their data using a bar graph, a line graph, or a line plot.  Look at each student’s survey question and decided which type of graph they should use.  Explain how you know.

 

1. Noah’s survey question:  “How many brothers and sisters do you have?”

Which type of graph should Noah make?  Explain how you know.

 

2.  Gia’s survey question:  “How many students in this class were enrolled in our school over the past 5 years?”

Which type of graph should Gia make?  Explain how you know.

 

3.  Feirin’s survey question:  “What is your favorite kind of fruit?”

Which type of graph should Feirin make?  Explain how you know.

 

B.  Students in another class are creating survey questions to use to collect data and represent the data in a graph.

 

4.  Rylie wants to make a line graph.  What question could she ask so that she can represent the data on a line graph?

 

5.  Oliver wants to make a bar graph.  What question can he ask so that he can represent the data using a bar graph?

 

6.  Aldin wants to make a line plot.  What question can he ask so that he can represent the data using a line plot?
