By running a simple simulation in Sprite Lab, students will experience how computing can be used to collect data that identify trends or patterns. After running the simulation multiple times, students will have an opportunity to make a prediction about how changing a variable in the simulation might impact the outcome, and then test that hypothesis.

Guide students to discuss the algorithm or process that they would use to find a value in an unsorted list and how that would be harder than in a sorted list. Help them to recognise that the only way to search the unsorted list is to go through every item (whether they choose randomly or look at the first, then second, then third…) because they are still just checking and eliminating one at a time.

Students can use these free sites provided to learn and practice graphing strategies that will allow them to dig deeper into information in order to gain a stronger understanding of manipulating and understanding data.
