In this lesson, students will create cascading consequence charts about two different opinions concerning the use of DDT.

This interactive lesson provides students with an opportunity to evaluate how the use of language and wordplay emphasie the theme presented in Shel Silverstein's humorous poem, "Sarah Cynthia Silvia Stout, Wouldn't Take the Garbage Out." Students will close read the poem and explain how the use of alliteration, hyperbole, and strong imagery assist in revealing the tone, characters, and theme.

This interactive lesson, based on the series Breaking Views, frames the controversial issues of fake news and trust in the media with the historical context of yellow journalism and sensationalist reporting. In addition to learning more about how fake news has evolved over the years, students will learn strategies for improving their media literacy and will be able to identify both credible and non-credible news sources. After they complete the lesson students will be better prepared to critically analyze media using the Five Key Questions of media literacy, which will become a point of enduring understanding that young people need in order to be better 21st century digital citizens in an era saturated by information.

In this CCSS lesson, students will explore this story through text dependent questions, academic vocabulary, and writing assignments.

During the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, Reuven is forced to sell Zlateh, the family goat, because business has been bad. On his way to the butcher, Aaron (Reuven's son) and Zlateh get caught in a terrible snowstorm, and after finding shelter in a haystack, they develop a deeper bond and interdependence.
