This resource is from Tools4NCTeachers.During this lesson, students develop an understanding of the importance of measuring with standard units. Students create rulers by taping together twelve 1 inch square tiles and then using them to measure objects around the room. Finally, they create a paper ruler to save and use in the future.
This resource is from Tools4NCTeachers. In this lesson, students first estimate the size and distance between their own facial features and then draw a self-portrait based on their estimates. Next students accurately measure and draw the same features and then compare the results.
*This remix combines a primary source set on "American Indian Boarding Schools" from the DPLA with an open-source 9th grade literature unit plan on Identity and Culture from Match Fish Tank. In this remix, students are first engaged in inquiry-based examination of a set of primary sources before more closely examining the relationship between identity, society, and schooling in the literary texts links below. For this remix, I have combined two open educational resources to create a text set that enables students to explore the concepts of identity, assimilation, and acclimation in the context of schooling.
This collection uses primary sources to explore The Watsons Go To Birmingham1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. Digital Public Library of America Primary Source Sets are designed to help students develop their critical thinking skills and draw diverse material from libraries, archives, and museums across the United States. Each set includes an overview, ten to fifteen primary sources, links to related resources, and a teaching guide. These sets were created and reviewed by the teachers on the DPLA's Education Advisory Committee.
