In this lesson, students extend their use of dilation to explore similar triangles. Students will be led through an activity using Geometer's Sketchpad, and using their prerequisite knowledge of dilated figures to explore "similar triangles", as will as properties of similar triangles

Students are using geometric transformations to help them find the corresponding sides of similar figures in order to use their proportionality. The mathematics task is intended to be a problem or question that encourages the use of mathematical practices. The dialogue is meant to show how students might engage in the mathematical practices as they work on the task.

In this lesson, students will graph translations (slides) and reflections (flips) on a coordinate plane. The lesson is introduced by having students move across the room to demonstrate translations and reflections.

This applet allows the user to explore the world of translations, reflections, and rotations. It allows the user to translate triangles, squares, and parallelograms on both the x and y-axes. The user can also reflect the figure around x values, y values, and the line x = y. The applet will also rotate the figure any given number of degrees.
