In this lesson, students relate macroscopic properties of matter (state) to microscopic properties (kinetic energy of the molecules) and develop an understanding of how changing the temperature and pressure of matter changes its properties. The lesson also introduces the phase diagram as an easy way to predict the state of a given material at a particular temperature and pressure.
