Overview

Travel Log – In this lesson, students will create a travel log using digital media detailing an imaginative narrative for two weeks of travel. This lesson was developed by Tia Gilliam as part of their completion of the North Carolina Global Educator Digital Badge program. This lesson plan has been vetted at the local and state level for standards alignment, Global Education focus, and content accuracy.

Description

Travel Log – In this lesson, students will create a travel log using digital media detailing an imaginative narrative for two weeks of travel.

Student Engagement/Motivation

Who has traveled the furthest in the class?  What is a good way to document your travels?  Today, we are going to create a travel log detailing the things you will do on your 2 week trip around North America.  You will complete an entry for all 14 days.

Learning Targets:

I can write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences about my trip around North America.

Criteria for Success:

I will write a narrative to share with my classmates showcasing my 14 day trip around North America.

Learning Tasks and Practice

During our unit of study, so far you all have researched a country in North America with your partner.  You all created a PowerPoint and poster with your partner on your country.  Today, you all are going to create a travel log.  Based on the research that you conducted, you will use your imagination to create a two week travel log.  In your log, you will write what you see, what you did, what you ate, what your favorite part of the day was and you will track the weather.  Just like other parts of the unit, you will be using your computer/tablet or laptop to complete your travel log.To being this lesson, the teacher will review narrative writing with students.  Students will create a travel log detailing their imaginative two week trip to their country of study.  Based on the research that they conducted, they will use their imagination to create a two week travel log.  In their log, they will write what they see, what they did, what they ate, what their favorite part of the day was and they will track the weather.  Just like other parts of the unit, they will be using digital media on their computers to complete their travel log.  The teacher will model the expectations by completing one day of the travel log.  Printing off the PDF of the Travel Log is also an option.

This lesson was fun!  The students using the information from their research along with using their imagination and creating their two week travel log gave more insight on things that they would do if they actual got a chance to visit the country.
