    GEDB Food Investigation: McDonald's Across the World (Lesson 2 of 5)

    Overview

    Students will pick their favorite items off the McDonald's menu and evaluate the food label for each item them choose. This lesson was developed by Amber DiGiore as part of their completion of the North Carolina Global Educator Digital Badge program. This lesson plan has been vetted at the local and state level for standards alignment, Global Education focus, and content accuracy.

    Description

    Students will pick their favorite items off the McDonald's menu and evaluate the food label for each item them choose.


    Content

    Learning Targets and Criteria for Success

    Students will research a McDonald’s menu from a foreign country, pick a meal and compare the meal's nutritional value to a common meal they eat from an American McDonald's menu. 


    Learning Tasks and Practice

    • Students will go onto the McDonalds website (http://corporate.mcdonalds.com/mcd/country/map.html) and pick a meal for them to eat. They will fill out a worksheet on the meal's overall nutritional value.
    • Students will go onto the McDonalds website (http://corporate.mcdonalds.com/mcd/country/map.html) of a foreign country and pick a meal for them to eat. They will fill out a worksheet on the meal's overall nutritional value.
    • Students will compare their findings and write a reflection piece on which country had a healthier menu for the options they chose.

    Collecting and Documenting Evidence of Learning

    Students will complete the McDonald's Menu worksheet as shown in the attachemnt. They will also complete a 20 sentence reflection on their findings.
