Animal Research
Overview
Students will learn about an animal and complete a graphich organizer to show their understanding.
Lesson Plan and Activity
In this collaborative lesson, the SLMC will collaborate with the classroom teacher to integrate information and research skills. The SLMC will read from a nonfiction book and share videos on an animal that the students are learning about in their grade level ELA classes. After the reading/viewing activities, the students will complete a graphic organizer to share their understanding.
This activity can be used for independent research by students in grade 2-3. The SLMC can introduce resources such as NCWise Owl to the students and invite them to conduct their own research and complete the graphic organzier. The classroom teacher and the SLMC can create a rubric to assess the extent of students' understanding.
Enrichment
Students can create a diorama about their animal. They can display their dioramas as a zoo.
The students who are advanced in technology should be encouraged to use Powerpoint or SWAY to create a presentation product and share with the class.
