NC.ELA.RI.8.5: Limited (1)

Partial alignment by covering only the
identifying part of standard and should be considered as part of a unit that would address the standard. The 8th grade standard is asking for analysis in detail and what role the particular piece of text plays in the concept. The resource provides very basis structures and most structures for 8th and up are not as simple as comparing/contrasting or cause and effect.

NC.ELA.RI.5.5: Limited (1)

Partial alignment by covering only the
a description part of standard and should be considered as part of a unit that would address the standard. The standard ask to compare and contrast the structures of the text and it has to be 2 or more text. This resource describes each structure so the reader knows different ones. It won't create comparisons

NC.ELA.RI.7.5: Limited (1)

Not aligned or is partially to an NC standard for 7th grade, because the standard is asking for analysis and then how the author uses the structure to organize the text to then contribute to his/her ideas. The resource does provide some of the main structures, but mainly for elementary

NC.ELA.RI.6.5: Limited (1)

Not aligned or is partially to an NC standard for 6th grade, because the standard is asking for analysis and how text fits into the structure. The resource does provide some of the main structures, but mainly for elementary

Motivation: Very Weak (0)

This resource doesn't help motivate students to engage them more into the process of understanding text structure. It provides basis examples of text structure, but again there is no connection to text

Adequacy: Limited (1)

A strength is that the resource is a good start for 4th grade especially with graphics. However, from experience students need more than graphics to really understand the standard of text structure. There should be additional visuals with added examples, vocabulary, signal words, practice, and/or videos to helps students with basis understanding.

Clarity: Strong (2)

Visuals of any kind will help kids better understand what is being asked of them. The text structures can get very confusing, however, there needs to be visuals that show the middle grades text structure standards.
