Engagement: Very Weak (0)

This resource promotes critical thinking as it asks students to investigate podcast episodes and then enter a summary and an evaluation of each podcast into a spreadsheet, but very little instructional guidance was provided. This lesson introduces students to podcasts yet students were not taken through a sample lesson/discussion together to help them understand how to evaluate a podcast. Also, guidance was not given to the students as to which specific podcasts/topics/episodes they should investigate. This was left too wide open for middle school students.

Usability: Very Weak (0)

This resource could be made more user-friendly for teachers and targeted learners by providing additional resources that help:
1. define podcasts
2. explain how to evaluate podcasts
3. direct students to specific podcasts that are age and topic appropriate

Purpose: Limited (1)

This resource has valuable technology features but needs to include specific podcast resources and topics appropriate for middle school students that directly relate to the Social Studies standards listed.

Reliability: Very Weak (0)

This resource is reliable on most platforms as it suggests web-based podcasting resources. Unfortunately, some of the resources include topics that are not appropriate for middle school students.

Accessibility: Very Weak (0)

This resource can be modified for learners with cognitive (and/or developmental, physical) disabilities by giving more options other than using text to summarize and evaluate podcast episodes. Students could use digital resources such as Seesaw, Vocaroo or Flipgrid to create audio or video recorded responses.
