Lesson Plan

Description

The students will count the cans that they earned and are donating to the food pantry. The students will reflect on the unit and how they felt about helping others.

Content

Student Engagement/Motivation

Today is the day to do the final count of the food our class collected. The students are going to make sure that the food is placed in groups of ten. Then the students can count the cans earned.  The students will pack them into boxes to go to the food pantry.

Learning Targets and Criteria for Success

Students will count by tens to get a final number of cans.

Reflect on our wants and needs unit.

Supplies/Resources

Reflection handout for children to respond to the unit. (Created by Michelle Allen on 11/4/16)

Learning Tasks and Practice

The students will make groups of ten with the cans of food.  The students will then count together by tens to get a class total of cans. The students will then review what was learned. The students will complete a reflection rubric about what was learned during this unit and how they felt.

Collecting and Documenting Evidence of Learning

Collect the student reflection sheets about the unit.

Teacher observation of the counting of cans and boxing them up.

Student Self-Reflection and Action Steps

Students will reflect on the unit and the food drive.  They will respond to questions on the form.

Extended Learning Opportunities

Research (as a class or individually with a family member) other ways to help feed the hungry in our world.
