Flow of Energy in Ecosystems
Material Type: Homework/Assignment
This instructional video shows educators how to set up a wave machine using wooden kabob sticks, jelly candies, and duct tape. The video also demonstrates how the wave machine can then be used to illustrate various wave properties. Background content on waves and wave energy is also provided.
Material Type: Demonstration, Lesson
This interative resource describes and demonstrates common properties of waves.
Material Type: Lesson Plan
This interactive activity allows students to manipulate the frequency and amplitude of different waves and graph the results.
Material Type: Interactive
Document to review the properties of waves and light.
Material Type: Homework/Assignment
Students work collaboratively to research and record information about different spinoffs of space exploration. Using the information they find, students then write a script to be produced into a podcast or vodcast.
Material Type: Lesson Plan
In this lesson, students identify the events that led to the decision to send a man to the moon, examine some of the work necessary to make the Apollo project possible, evaluate arguments for preserving historic sites relating to the space program, and discuss comparable debates about preserving places in their own community that are associated with recent history.
Material Type: Lesson Plan
Lesson plan that uses students' step length to understand the relationship between distance, speed and acceleration. Includes graphing of data and interpretation of graphs.
Material Type: Activity/Lab, Lesson Plan
Make a copy of this Google Drawing and edit as needed. This game is for individual students, and allows them to choose which activities they want to try. Add your own School Net test code to the bottom right box.

PHET Description:Make a whole rainbow by mixing red, green, and blue light. Change the wavelength of a monochromatic beam or filter white light. View the light as a solid beam, or see the individual photons. Teacher Description: if you are a science teacher you are probably familiar with PhET Simulations. The website has many sims for things like matter, waves, and molecules that are help students visualize the abstract or very tiny. This sim is good is appropriate for teaching students how color filters work, and demonstrates that white or colorless light is made up of all colors.
Material Type: Activity/Lab
Please make a copy and edit to fit the needs of your students.
Material Type: Self Assessment
Fun review activity with an Amazing Race Theme.
Material Type: Homework/Assignment
Investigate dynamics in the earth’s crust that explain multiple phenomena.
Material Type: Activity/Lab
Students will conduct simple investigations to observe plant responses to light.
Material Type: Lesson Plan
This content resource builds students' knowledge and conceptual understanding about plants through interactive activities, printable worksheets, and hands-on explorations. There are six investigation cases for students to complete; each case examines a different aspect of plant life, including plant structures, life cycles and reproduction, proper environmental conditions for growth, and ecological importance. Supplemental background information and a teacher's guide with suggestions for using the materials in the classroom are also provided. A Spanish version of the web site is available.
