When you think of your organization (district/school),

* who do you envision will be "early adopters" in the #GoOpenNC movement? Why?

* who do you envision will be need extra encouragement to participate? Why?

I think the early adopters for our school district will be teachers who already have that drive to search online for curriculum materials to support their instruction because they are ususally the ones that are always trying to find something current or new to help their students or grow as educators.

Teachers that use the same teaching materials that they've used for years will be the ones that would need extra encouragement to participate because many of them may have had positive results with what they've used, so they would be thinking "why would I need to find something new?".

I agree. For our "extra encouragement participants"..... Yes, and, maybe we can encourage them to share their materials and vet/remix others!

Melissa Edgerton 4 years, 6 months ago

I agree. My goal is to get one person in each department on board in searching the platform. Then everytime the team plans or discusses, I have that one person who says, "GoOpenNC."

Our early adopters are already looking at the resources.  I think some of the ones who will need extra ecouragement are the ones who want to use the same thing year after year but are still not getting the results they need.

Martha Levey 4 years, 6 months ago

Yes, and if they are encouraged to share and/or remix what they find, that will get them on the platform!

Melissa Edgerton 4 years, 6 months ago

Yes...and those who are afraid to buy into "another new thing." My goal is to get one person in each department onboard and using it. Then everytime that team plans or discusses resources that person says, "let me look on GoOpenNC."

My fellow staff and administrative teachers who are confident about what they do and feel the need to pass on their knowledge to help ensure a bright future for students and those of us who will eventually be served by the future.  Teachers who lack what I am coining misled passion or professional inmaturity and feel they should always recieve some extrinsic credit.

Danielle Flores 4 years, 6 months ago

I agree, Leigh. Those teachers who want to share will share and I hope there will be more of those! The ones that need some extrinsic credit, maybe we can encourage them to review and offer suggestions to the resources that are out there!

Melissa Edgerton 4 years, 6 months ago

There will always be those who refuse to freely share. There are also those who do not freely seek help and support from their peers. I see this platform as a place for those who need additional support and access to NCSCS aligned materials. This is a start in the right direction of improving alignment. I also think rigor will improve as we review and remix materials.

I think this will be a good resource for teachers to find quality lessons plans to use for our students.  I am worried that some of our teachers will be a little wary of having to learn to use another source, no matter how effective they will be for our students and cut out some of the wasted time in Google search land.  Even though it is a wonderful source it does take time for some to change.

I think some of the newer teachers, not necessary BT, but more technologically savvy teachers will be more likely to grasp and turn to utilizing OER.

Melissa Edgerton 4 years, 6 months ago

Yes. We have become so accustomed to getting and losing access to resources, that veteran teachers are fearful to fully invest in new things. I think the teachers who are looking to TPT, but really want more NCSCS alignment will love this platform.

I feel that the teachers who are looking for a new way of teaching the same content will be the ones who dive into this resource! I too  feel  that new teachers will gravitate to this resource just because it is “FREE” as well as place to find a wealth of knowledge.
