About me

I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I enlisted in the US Navy directly out of high school and served as an electrical engineer. After 20 years of military service, I decided to follow my passion for education and become a high school English teacher. I have been a classroom teacher for 15 years. During that time, I earned Master’s degrees in Secondary Education and Reading, and a Doctoral degree in Curriculum & Instruction. I am also certified as a Reading Specialist, as well as a Curriculum Specialist. I am very interested in the components of effective teaching and cultural awareness/sensitivity in the classroom. I plan to find ways to help create awareness and understanding of the elements needed to create a culturally diverse learning environment effectively.
