Determining a linear function: Grade 8 Mathematics Module 6, Topic A, Lesson 1
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

In this lesson, students determine a linear function given a verbal description of a linear relationship between two quantities. Students interpret linear functions based on the context of a problem. Students graph linear functions by constructing a table of values, plotting points, and drawing the line.

In this lesson, students understand that when one group is randomly divided into two groups, the two groups’ means differ just by chance (a consequence of the random division). Students understand that when one group is randomly divided into two groups, the distribution of the difference in the two groups’ means can be described in terms of shape, center, and spread.

This lesson looks back at the graphs students previously studied as an introduction to this module. Students are also asked to interpret what a graph communicates. They are reminded that a graph is not only a representation of data but also a summary of a data story. Each of the graphs presented in the exercises are encountered in the lessons that follow in this module. This lesson asks students to start thinking about what the data indicate, how they might have been collected, and what they tell us.

Division of Integers: Grade 7 Mathematics Module 2, Topic B, Lesson 12

CC BY-NC-SA
Rating

In this lesson, students recognize that division is the reverse process of multiplication, and that integers can be divided provided the divisor is not zero. If p and q are integers, then - (p/q) = -p/q = p/-q . Students understand that every quotient of integers (with a non-zero divisor) is a rational number and divide signed numbers by dividing their absolute values to get the absolute value of the quotient. The quotient is positive if the divisor and dividend have the same signs and negative if they have opposite signs.

In this lesson, students draw a coordinate plane on graph paper in two steps: (1) Draw and order the horizontal and vertical axes and (2) Mark the number scale on each axis. Given some points as ordered pairs, students make reasonable choices for scales on both axes, and locate and label the points on graph paper.
