Chemical Changes: Reacting an Acid and Base
Read the Fine Print
Rating
0.0 stars

In this lab activity, students will investigate chemical changes that occur when acids and bases react. It is meant to introduce the concepts of chemical changes, mass of gases, conservation of mass, and balancing equations. Students will make qualitative observations and quantitative measurements.

Lab: Conservation of Mass
Read the Fine Print
Rating
0.0 stars

In this lab students will conduct an investigation to find out if substance either lose or gain mass after a chemical reaction takes place. Students will combine (and measure the mass of) 200 ml of water with a measured mass of antacid. They will add these two masses together BEFORE combining them. Students will then combine the two substances together in a capped bottle and record observations. Students will wait for the reaction to finish, then measure mass of the system. Students will then answer lab questions, and balance the chemical equation for this reaction.

Sharing As a Model for Division
Read the Fine Print
Rating

In this Cyberchase activity, students begin by using manipulatives to share objects among different sized groups. After watching a video clip that demonstrates dealing out rounds (or sets) of objects to solve a problem, the students work on a few division problems on their own. A second video clip demonstrates how to solve such problems using numbers. With the handout, students learn to write these problems as multiplication and division facts.
