An interactive applet and associated web page that deals with the area of a kite, (a quadrilateral with two distinct pairs of equal adjacent sides). The applet shows a kite and the user can reshape it by dragging any vertex. The other vertices move automatically to ensure it always remains a kite. As the vertices are dragged, the area is continuously recalculated and displayed. The kite is filled with a grid of unit squares so that the students can estimate the area. The on-screen calculation can be hidden until the estimates are done. The web page lists two different ways to compute the area of a kite. Applet can be enlarged to full screen size for use with a classroom projector. This resource is a component of the Math Open Reference Interactive Geometry textbook project at http://www.mathopenref.com.

This student interactive, from Illuminations, allows students to explore the conditions that guarantee uniqueness of a triangle, quadrilateral, or pentagon regardless of location or orientation. Each set of conditions results in a new congruence theorem.

In this lesson plan, students are tasked with designing a playground at their school. Each section has its own requirement for each quadrilateral. In the end, they must be able to defend their shape against a classmate's of why they choose the shape. They must also list any other quadrilateral that could be drawn in that space.

Students will practice their knowledge of polygons by sorting them using a Carroll Diagram. This interactive game can be used with a whole group or small group of students to reinforce the concept of quadrilaterals as polygons. This whiteboard activity gives instant feedback if students sort incorrectly.

This lesson can be use in geometry classes. Students in geometry classes can apply theorems and definitions of quadrilaterals rather than as an inquiry lesson.
