Students will discover the differences in musical tempo between fast and slow. Students will learn to use the
correct musical terms to describe the tempo of each piece. Students will use streamers and their bodies to
show at what tempo each piece is played.

This lesson uses the book, Like a Hundred Drums, by Annette Griessman. The lesson can be used by music educators to practice dynamics and for exposure to classical music, and can be used by ELA or generalist teachers to enhance engagement and understanding of literature.

This lesson is designed to teach positional, directional and spatial skills, social skills, large motor skills, creative skills, and oral vocabulary using the "Aquarium" movement from Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint- Saëns. The lesson is designed specifically to teach early childhood developmentally delayed students but can the challenge can easily be increased to make it appropriate for older grades or ELL classes.

How does someone who is deaf enjoy music? Can they hear it? Can they make it? Through exploring the life and music of Evelyn Glennie, students will understand that music is sound produced by vibrations. This understanding will allow them to create their own instrument out of objects and compose a musical score for presentation.

Copland, an American maverick, becomes a storyteller as he writes about life in the early years of America. His Appalachian Spring helps students understand how people, places and things change over time, while his musical sketch reinforces the six traits of writing.

Students will learn to focus and listen to music and begin to recognize the musical elements of dynamics and tempo. Students will learn to discuss the emotions that music can portray and evoke with a writing activity to allow students to brainstorm ideas of what they hear.

Throughout history, the night sky has been the object of much speculation, investigation and imagination by scientists and mathematicians, as well as the subject for creations and compositions by musicians and visual artists. Mozart"Ÿs (12) "Variations on "žAh Vous Dirai-je Maman" and "The Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh will stimulate students"Ÿ interest in the art of the evening sky.

In this lesson plan, students will become familiar with the music of Rimsky-Korsakov in fullfillment of the National Standards for Music (listening to, analyzing, and describing music).

Students listen to Vivaldi's The Four Season, Autumn, and describe emotion, tempo, and dynamics. Students engage kinesthetically as they move to the music and learn about the composer. Students learn the scientific reasons for fall leaves changing color. Students sing the poem "Little Leaves" to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle and the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Students do a choral reading of "Colors of Fall." Students will collect real autumn leaves, then draw and paint them as their interpretation of Vivaldi's Autumn.

Students show ternary (ABA) form in movement, sing a Russian folk song in English,
practice showing phrase structure and finding and showing beat, and discriminate a
rhythmic pattern at various tempi. This lesson uses music from Romani performers to explore basic musical concepts.

The students will create with the teacher body percussion to Frederic Chopin - Mysterious Forest and Tchaikovsky - The Forest Of Fir Trees In Winter. They will chose their own piece of music and create own movements.

Students will understand and demonstrate four dynamic levels (p-f) with this "Easter Egg Hunt" themed lesson plan. This lesson is designed to fulfill Standard #7 of the National Standards for Music: Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.

sounding. (McGowan,1991) This form of traditional music is active in the northeastern
region of Brazil. Embolada has a fast rhythm and complex tone that deftly incorporate varied
lyrics and onomatopoeia. Embolada is mostly improvised following a dialogue by the
“Embolador”, who sings while hitting the Pandeiro at short intervals in between verses. The
singer needs considerable skill, experience, and a sense of humor . Embolada is sung in the
streets; it is influenced by American rap music and African music. Using the Embolada
rhythm, students can improvise lyrics and sing solo.
