    GEDB Myths and Legends: Our Myths and Legends Cafe (Lesson 3 of 3)

    Overview

    In this lesson students will have the opportunity to write their own myths or legends and share them with their parents in their own class. This lesson was developed by Carolina Vargas-Escobar as part of their completion of the North Carolina Global Educator Digital Badge program. This lesson plan has been vetted at the local and state level for standards alignment, Global Education focus, and content accuracy.

    Description

    In this lesson students will have the opportunity to write their own myths or legends and share them with their parents in their own class.

     

    Content

    Student Engagement/Motivation

    Students will be told that the will be the host of a Myth Café session, where their  parents will be the guests. they will write  their own myths or legends ( the one of their preference)

     

    Learning Targets and Criteria for Success

    Students  will use the legend or myth they wrote at home, to be edited in class and get it ready to publish. They have  to fullfill the criteria for spelling, punctuation and grammar.

     

    Supplies/Resources

    • Paper
    • Pencil
    • Eraser

     

    Learning Tasks and Practice

    Once they have  edited and written their good copies , parents will come to a Café session (Previously set up) where the tables will be arrange like a Café style. One student will receive parents at the door and get them to their tables. At the table, parents will receive a "Menu" with the names of the stories written by the students and they will ask for the one of their  preference.  The Students will come  to the tables and read the stories to them.

     

    Technological Engagement

    The smartboard will be used to project the " Menu" of the stories  and also to play music to simulate a Café enviroment.

     

    Collecting and Documenting Evidence of Learning

    Parents will receive a format to fill out with their opinions about the kids presentations.

     

    Student Self-Reflection and Action Steps

    The next class, students will sit on the carpet to make their own reflection about the activity. They  will highlight what they liked the most about the activity and what they think, or things  they could have done better  and what they can improve for next time.

     

    Feedback/Instructional Adjustments

    Based on the students self reflection, the group can come into an agreement of what to do, and what not to do, the next time  they a presentation for an audience.

     

    Extended Learning Opportunities 

    Students will switch their writings with their classmates, in order to take them home and read them to their parents. They will write opinions, and questions about their writings.

     

    Teacher Reflection of Learning

    The teacher will be observed by one of her coworkers. The observer will give her feedback about the class and possible recommendations.
