Overview

This resource provides a lesson plan over 2-3 class periods centered around the skeletal system in the human body. Students will participate in a variety of digital and non-digital activities to master content such as learning the basic functions of the skeletal system and naming the bones in the human body.

Learning  Standard  5.L.1 Understand how structures and systems of organisms (to include the human body)    perform functions necessary for life.
Learning Objective 5.L.1.2 Compare the major systems of the human body (digestive, respiratory, circulatory, muscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular) in terms of their functions necessary for life.
Do Now Play the video, “Your Super Skeleton!” from youtube.com. Ask students if they think their bones are alive?  Ask students if babies have more bones than grown-ups?
Introduction/ Daily Agenda  Review Discuss the path of the playlist and how they will go from one activity to another with   teacher check-ins throughout the path.
Mini – Lesson  Discuss that we will be learning the importance of the skeletal system and we will be   able to label the different bones that make up the skeletal system within the human   body.
Tech distribution Have Chromebooks ready for student use throughout the playlist path.

2. Build: Skeletal System1. Use the worksheet provided to cut out the skeleton parts and attach with fasteners.  2. Choose an activity from the Skeleton Activities attached for more exploring.  
3. Slides:  Skeletal  SystemReview the slides and then click here to take a Quizizz on the Skeletal System.  
4. Watch Movie:Watch Movie: Bone & Skeletal System. Read the article, take the quiz, and complete the activity. Use Kami.  
5. Watch: Skeletal SystemWatch the Edpuzzle video found here about the Skeletal System and answer all questions that go with the video.  
6. Study: VocabularyStudy flashcards of vocabulary words from Quizlet found here.  
7. Create: ComicUse Pixton to create a comic storyboard in which you explain to a classmate what you have learned about the Skeletal System. Make sure you have at least 8 vocabulary words in your creation.  
8. Complete: Kami Human SkeletonClick here to use Kami to type in text to label the parts of the human skeleton.
