NC.Math.8.G.8: Superior (3)

This activity uses the first standard in order to plot points on a coordinate plane to identify the fencing of the house. Use of the Pythagorean theorem allows students to find the distance between the trees in order to find perimeter.

Appropriateness: Superior (3)

I think this activity is very appropriate for real world examples for students. It is a real life situation to know how to find the perimeter for fencing around a house and use that information to calculate pricing.

Usability: Strong (2)

This resource is fairly easy to understand. Some students may need hints of a compass rose to be reminded how to plot the points to represent the fence. As well, they may require a hint of using Pythagorean theorem in order to find the distance between the trees.
