Students will learn about stereotypes associated with Muslims and then stereotypes associated with groups in their own school. Students will learn about Muslims - through an article and video clips - look for stereotypes/monoliths in their own schools and create a school campaign that attempts to fight these stereotypes using announcements and psoters.

In this lesson, students will learn about British control over Palestine after World War I and how it influenced the Israel-Palestine situation in the modern Middle East. The material will be introduced through a timeline activity and followed by a PowerPoint that covers many of the post-WWI British policies. The lesson culminates in a letter-writing project where students have to support a position based upon information learned.

Students will explore the budgeting process in North Carolina, gaining an understanding of the different categories of our state's budget, how they are funded, and the state's procedure for making a budget. Students will participate in an experiential activity in which they create a balanced state budget, determining what areas to prioritize and then defending their decisions to fellow legislators.

In this lesson, students will explore the concept of diversity and why having diversity in cultures, races, languages, opinions, etc., is actually an advantage to any group. With this foundation, students will then explore issues surrounding language diversity and immigration by reading excerpts and engaging with audio and video clips from the interactive book, Talkin’ Tar Heel: How Our Voices Tell the Story of North Carolina. This lesson culminates with an activity where students create their own interactive video for Talkin' Tar Heel.

Students will learn about the events leading up to the Revolutionary War and develop an understanding of the causes of Patriot resentment of the British. Students will experience emotions similar to those felt by colonists by participating in an experiential activity and represent various opinions of the time by creating a political cartoon focused on a particular event, tax, act, or law.

In this lesson, students will simulate the meeting of the Clover County Commissioners, gaining an active understanding of the importance of local government. Students will then examine youth voter apathy at the local level and brainstorm ideas on how to get young people engaged in voting.

In this experiential activity, students will gain an understanding of the role of city councils, the responsibilities of council members, and the relevance of council decisions to individual citizens. Assuming the roles of city council members or special interest groups, students will participate in a city council simulation in which council members must decide whether to pass a curfew ordinance for the city's young residents.

Students can then apply learned presentation skills and acquired understandings to format a presentation for a local governing body.

Students will identify services provided by local government and determine which government departments are responsible for various services. They will then assume the roles of city council members and prioritize various government services, allocating mock resources accordingly. Finally, students will discuss the importance of being active citizens and participating in their local government.

Students assume the roles of detectives as they investigate the occurrences during the Salem Witch Trials. They also assume the roles of lawyers and explore the principles of American democracy through the documents and laws that are meant to protect citizens from such unjust treatment in modern history.

Students participate in an experiential game in which they explore the concepts of cooperation and competition.

Students will discuss how different societies answer the same fundamental economic questions by comparing various economic systems. Resources are provided for direction instruction and independent practice. In mixed ability groups, students design role-plays to exemplify each type of economy. Finally, students write a letter to the editor at the Wall Street Journal arguing whether a mixed economy is the economic system that should be used in the United States.

Students participate in activities in which they learn about redistricting, types of legislative committees, types of legislation, and the process by which a bill becomes a law in Congress. Students will apply their knowledge by participating in a legislative simulation in which the House Judiciary Committee determines whether to report a proposed bill regarding punishment for drunk driving as favorable on the floor.

Students will work on an independent project throughout their study of the Constitutional Period by researching a Constitutional topic and creating a float representing that topic. Students will then educate others on their topic by presenting their float in a class parade.

If students take away anything from Remarkable Journey, it is hopefully the incredible ways the Indian community has contributed to the progress, growth, diversity and richness of the state of North Carolina. In this activity (best conducted after students have been exposed to multiple clips or the entire film,) students will consider all that they have learned about India and its people then create movie poster for Remarkable Journey that they think best highlights these themes.

In this lesson, students will learn about the basis of county and city government and, through role plays, will explore some of the major difference between counties and municipalities.

Students will assume the roles of County Commissioners and utilize advocacy, negociation, and compromise to create a county budget.

Assuming the roles of county commissioners or special interest groups, students will participate in a board of commissioners' simulation in which commissioners must decide whether to pass a county budget.

In this lesson, students will participate in a budgeting simulation in which they learn about the responsibilities and interactions of county boards of commissioners and state mandated county independent boards.

Students will examine the organization of local governments, charters, and elections by creating their own city.
