Students will understand transformations by first exploring the notion of linearity in an algebraic context. This quickly leads to a return to the study of complex numbers and a study of linear transformations in the complex plane.
This assessment will check for understanding of goals NC.M4.AF.3.1, NC.MA.AF.3.2 and NC.MA.AF.3.3. This is an open-ended assessment that includes changing from expnential to logarithmic form, properties of logarithms, solving logarithmic and exponential equations and applications with exponential and logarithmic functions.
The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) videos are designed to support states, schools, and teachers in the implementation of selected math standards. Each video is an audiovisual resource that focuses on one or more specific standards through examples and illustrations geared to enhancing understanding. The intent of each content-focused video is to clarify the meaning of the individual standard rather than to be a guide on how to teach each standard, although the examples can be adapted for instructional use.
This assessment is used to check for understanding of standard NC.M4.AF.2.3 The assessment is open-ended and asks for students to provide understanding of amplitude, period, phase shift and vertical shift of sine and cosine graphs. It also assesses writing equations of sine and cosine and sketching their graphs.
Students will create an endothermic chemical reaction. Students will observe and describe the ingredients. They will measure the temperature of the milk and the ice. After making ice cream, students will measure the temperature of the ice cream (if thermometer is sanitized), and the ice/salt mixture. Students will observe and describe the changes in the physical properties of the ingredients. Students will taste the ice cream, and use their senses to describe the ice cream.
