Students will discover how to read music notes in the treble clef and then will learn to perform simple songs on
xylophones, through reading the story Freddy the Frog and the Thump in the Night by Sharon Burch.

This lesson uses the book, One Day in the Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Tree, by Daniel Bernstrom and Brendon Wenzel, to teach students about quarter and half notes.

REMIX- Added accessibility enhancements Use the book Tanka, Tanka, Skunk! by Steve Webb to teach one or more of the following music concepts:  quarter notes and rests, beamed eighth notes, piano, forte and time signature.

Throughout history, the night sky has been the object of much speculation, investigation and imagination by scientists and mathematicians, as well as the subject for creations and compositions by musicians and visual artists. Mozart"Ÿs (12) "Variations on "žAh Vous Dirai-je Maman" and "The Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh will stimulate students"Ÿ interest in the art of the evening sky.

Students will learn to play a quarter/eighth note rhythm pattern on percussion instruments. This lesson is designed to fulfill Standard #2 of the National Standards for Music: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

Students will be taught the correlation of Native American music and rhythm. They will also create their own Native American musical instrument and develop a rhythm of their own. Students will understand the basics of rhythm and develop their own rhythms.

‘Embolada” is a form of poetry and song that has set refrains. The refrains allow
singers to organize their next improvised stanza in their heads—even as the music is
sounding. (McGowan,1991) This form of traditional music is active in the northeastern
region of Brazil. Embolada has a fast rhythm and complex tone that deftly incorporate varied
lyrics and onomatopoeia. Embolada is mostly improvised following a dialogue by the
“Embolador”, who sings while hitting the Pandeiro at short intervals in between verses. The
singer needs considerable skill, experience, and a sense of humor . Embolada is sung in the
streets; it is influenced by American rap music and African music. Using the Embolada
rhythm, students can improvise lyrics and sing solo.

This lesson is an introduction into 3 common rests used in music.  Students will watch a video, practice drawing rest and take an assessment.

This is an all-inclusive lesson that takes the familiar children's song Bingo and turns it into a multifaceted music lesson. Begins with singing and clapping the rhythm, adds notation, sign language, and then some tone color. Great lesson for younger students.

This lesson combines a read aloud book with musical accompaniment. Students will perform a simple repeating rhythm pattern on each page of the book. Students will be motivated with the interactive elements of reading the story. Students will anticipate and predict the text of the story and will read along with a phrase from each page of the book. This lesson can be facilitated by non-music teachers as well as music teachers.
