Overview

Students will watch and listen to Eric Carle reading his book A Very Hungry Caterpillar and use visuals to sequence and retell the events of the story. Students will use days of the week vocabulary to help them sequence the story.

Students watch youtube video of Eric Carle reading aloud A Very Hungry Caterpillar. Students use Story Sticks to sequence the events of the story for accurate retelling.

Make and Read

Materials Needed:

-Eric Carle's A Very Hungry Caterpillar

-Copies of the Emergent Reader from makinglearningfun.com

 

Students watch youtube video of Eric Carle reading aloud A Very Hungry Caterpillar and then leads a discussion, including the days of the week vocabulary, encouraging students to use the days to sequence the story and retell the events with details. Students will cut, color and assemble their own emergent reader booklets to practice reading a simplified version of the story.
