In this lesson, students will explore with Google Earth in order to find where the Asian Continent is located. Students will read about food around the world and focus their attention in some Asian countries. In this lesson, students will read different informational texts and compare and contrast the celebration of Christmas in two different countries.

For this activity, students identify different aspects of culture and interview a family member to learn about their cultural history. Students also identify why aspects and traditions of their cultural history are important and how they contribute to society, understand, appreciate and respect differences and similaritiies among classmates' cultures.

This resource supports English language development for English language learners. These activities teach students the language necessary to discuss eating habits and holiday foods. Students correct errors in sentences, practice the correct use of many and much, match countrues to their cuisines, and discuss questions with partners. In this lesson, students learn that every family has traditions they participate in throughout the year.

In these lessons, students learn a traditional Chinese folktale and examine a contemporary artwork that’s based on it. The work, Xu Bing’s Monkeys Grasp for the Moon, is an installation made up of the word monkey in more than a dozen languages. Students create their own word-based works. This set of four lessons is divided into grades K–2, 3–5, 6–8, and 9–12. Younger students arrange cut-out letters into a picture. Older students create an animation.

In this lesson, students learn about multicultural holidays celebrated in winter: Hanukkah, St. Lucia Day, Las Posadas, Kwanzaa, and Chinese New Year. Students will document their experiences in a journal. A lengthy list of books for each holiday is provided.

In this activity, students use art supplies to create vocabulary cards that compare common words in various languages.

This inquiry encourages students to expand their study of self and others by deepening their understanding of the role of traditions, holidays, and symbols in establishing cultural identity and unity. The compelling question "What makes holidays special?" reflects an enduring conversation about how and why people engage in ritual and tradition.
