This parent guide supports parents in helping their child at home with the 3rd grade Math content.

This resource accompanies our Rethink 3rd Grade Math Course. It includes ideas for use, ways to support exceptional children, ways to extend learning, digital resources and tools, tips for supporting English Language Learners and students with visual and hearing impairments. There are also ideas for offline learning.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) videos are designed to support states, schools, and teachers in the implementation of selected math standards. Each video is an audiovisual resource that focuses on one or more specific standards through examples and illustrations geared to enhancing understanding. The intent of each content-focused video is to clarify the meaning of the individual standard rather than to be a guide on how to teach each standard, although the examples can be adapted for instructional use.

In this interactive math game, students will fluently solve multiplication problems while popping the balloons in order from smallest answer to largest answer.

Working as if they are engineers who work for (the hypothetical) Build-a-Toy Workshop company, students apply their imaginations and the engineering design process to design and build prototype toys with moving parts. They set up electric circuits using batteries, wire and motors. They create plans for project material expenses to meet a budget.

In this video segment from Cyberchase, Harry plays a game of chess with a young friend and suggests a wager on the game. Harry?s friend uses a story to explain how putting a penny on the first square and then doubling the amount on each square of the chessboard can generate a tremendous amount of money over time. Teaching tips are also provided that discuss frame, focus and follow-up suggestions for using this video in a math lesson.

In this lesson, students will find patterns when counting by related numbers and explain the relationship of multiplication and division.

In this interactive math game, students will learn division facts while brushing the teeth of crocodiles. Students can choose from two different levels, easy and super. Then within each level they can choose from six different fact levels to play. Once they complete the game they can play again.

For this interactive, students' knowledge and understanding of division are reinforced as they work to demolish tanks with division problems in order to defend their base.
