Students learn what binge eating is and what causes it, as well as, how it is different from other eating disorders, signs of binge eating, and how to get help.During our teens, the body demands extra nutrients to support growth of muscle and bone. So if you go through phases where you feel like eating more sometimes, that's usually why. But binge eating is different from normal appetite increases or overeating over the holidays. People with a binge eating problem eat unusually large amounts of food on a regular basis. They often eat quickly, do other things while they eat (like watch TV or do homework), and don't stop when they're full.
Students learn about body image and self-esteem in teenagers. It includes topics such as why self-esteem and body image are important, what Influences a person's self-esteem, tips for improving body image, and where teens can go for help. Students can read or listen to this article.
Students reflect on stories of teenagers with body dysmorphic disorder, or B.D.D., and eating disorders. By drawing and discussing support webs around each story, groups investigate the disorders from the perspectives of the individual affected and the people in their lives.

It will benefit your students to understand the real psychological and physical details of eating disorders as well as the roles that friends, family, school, the media, and society may play.
Students learn about emotional eating including physical hunger vs. emotional hunger and tips to break the cycle.

Students will investigate eating disorders by country and identify eating disorders that may be impacting a country. Students will make the public aware of eating disorders that are impacting countries. Students learn how to eat when playing sports including eating extra for excellence and choosing a variety of foods.
